Appreciate all who has contributed to the discussion so far.ĮDIT 2: Another redditer, u/clickx3**,** brought to my attention a way to install the driver without having to download any other softwares. I could have expressed this better, but based on what many others are saying, my feelings of frustration seemed to be shared by others with different experiences relating to similar issues with HP Printers.

The point of my post though was (mostly to express my frustration with HP) to show how bad this HP printer software is when compared to simply installing a driver. Overall, I can't tell what is going through HP's head, but if this is an attempt to modernize printing, then they clearly have no idea what is simple and efficient for an end user.

The Menu layout for the HP Smart App is not very intuitive either, as there are printer settings on a tile of the homepage, and then to the right, there is a hamburger menu for other settings as well, which. We finally were able to download and install the drivers right after, but then was prompted with ANOTHER screen asking to install an HP Mobile App onto your phone "For easy printing on the go" as if air-print doesn't exist.Īfter all of that, I still needed to add the printer onto the computer, which is fine, but for some reason would not appear in the Control Panel, so I had to use the Ugly Windows 10 Printers and Scanners settings menu. This error message appeared several times. If I wasn't there to simply exit the error message, the user would have been really confused.
Then after that, it prompts error messages to check the file path or something of the like. Once you reject that prompt, selecting a printer from the list isn't too difficult until you realize that once it tries to add a printer, it asks for confirmation from the touch screen. It does that from the start of the app, which you can reject of course, but I find this to be incredibly annoying still. This app will ask you several times if you want to create an HP Account. I haven't even gotten to the HP Smart app. That's just the Microsoft Store portion of it.

They set it up on the Wi-Fi with no issues, and their laptop was on Wi-Fi as well. They were using an HP OfficeJet 9010 printer. The VEN code means vendor and the DEV code means device: in this case the vendor is 8086 and the device is 27D8. You will see a code like per example VEN_8086&DEV_27D8&SUBSYS. In the device manager, for the device you need driver for, Right click properties for the device, go in details for the device driver. If you do NOT know the make & model of your device you can Search by Vendor / Device code as shown in device manager. Note: If the manufacturer only lists drivers for Windows XP and not for Windows Vista or Windows 7, that means the device is unsupported or incompatible with the unlisted operating systems. In the support section download the drivers for your specific make and model of the device for your version of Windows. You can use google to find the manufacturer's website if you do not know it. Please visit the manufacturer's website to download the drivers for your device.
